FlickrExport 2 – Sneak Peek

Some early screenshots of FlickrExport 2 have been posted over on Flickr. Currently, the plan is to satisfy the following major feature requests:

- Uploading into existing sets (a.k.a. The Most Requested Feature Evar. One.).
- Adding uploaded images to a group pool.
- Providing a list of the user’s Flickr tags to choose from.

You can follow the progress of the FlickrExport 2 milestone on the FlickrExport Trac Roadmap.

new features look great; I’d had some problems months ago, so I’m pleased to try it again. Was happy to see that my iphoto keywords transferred as tags. Can’t remember if that was the case before; no matter, I’m glad.

Also, the “to be added” features sound great!

    thank you for this!

The beta looks great and, frankly, I can see why you want to charge for the final version. Would you care to give us an indication of how much this is likely to cost?

This project used to be on Sourceforge, aka open source?? Now you decide to have people pay for it as a closed source. And don’t call it shareware since you actually force people to pay to be able to use (if I didn’t have more than 5 pics to upload, I wouldn’t need an uploader!!!)

Ducon: Yes, FlickrExport used to be Open Source. Unfortunately, the “open source with donations” revenue model didn’t produce enough revenue (where “enough” is defined as “pays the hosting bill”, not “wal-mart-style profits”).

I think the definition of shareware is evolving as the line between demo-limited commercial applications and traditional independent shareware authors becomes increasingly blurred. Th unlicensed version of OmniGraffle, for example, limits you to 20 objects in a diagram. I wouldn’t say that OmniGraffle isn’t shareware because it enforces a limit on unlicensed use.

You’ve timed this nicely. It’s payday today.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would object to paying £12 for this. Certainly, your software has saved me more than £12 of my time.

    Thank you.
