It’s here: FlickrExport for Aperture!
Connected Flow is pleased to announce the first public beta of FlickrExport for Aperture. FlickrExport for Aperture brings all the features of FlickrExport for iPhoto, and more, to Aperture. Using the new plugin API in Aperture 1.5, FlickrExport for Aperture allows photographers to export their photos directly from Aperture to Flickr, preserving all relevant metadata.
In addition, the advanced Aperture API enables new features not possible in the iPhoto version of FlickrExport, including:
- Add a keyword to photos uploaded to Flickr.
- Add Flickr’s Photo ID and URL to uploaded photos.
- Replace photos already uploaded to Flickr where the Flickr ID has been assigned in Aperture.
- Edit latitude and longitude data in FlickrExport before upload.
- In addition to all the usual features from FlickrExport 2 for iPhoto, such as:
- Bulk editing of Title, Description, Tags, Security Settings.
- Creating photosets, or appending photos to existing photosets.
- Adding photos to group pools.
- Completing tags from those already used on Flickr.
Relationship to FlickrExport for iPhoto
FlickrExport for Aperture is a separate product from FlickrExport for iPhoto and requires a serial number specifically for that product. Serial numbers purchased for FlickrExport for iPhoto will not work in FlickrExport for Aperture.
It is not intended that FlickrExport for iPhoto be a “lite” version of FlickrExport for Aperture. It is intended that each product will have as many features as can be implemented within each application. However, since Aperture and iPhoto are distinct applications, the existence of any feature in FlickrExport for Aperture should not be taken as implying that a similar feature will be implemented in FlickrExport for iPhoto, nor vice versa.
Pricing
FlickrExport for Aperture will be priced at £14. Users of FlickrExport for iPhoto will be able to purchase a license for FlickrExport for Aperture at a 50% discount by entering their serial number for FlickrExport for iPhoto during the checkout process.
Serial numbers will be available for purchase at the time FlickrExport for Aperture 1.0 is released.
Beta Release
This is the first public beta release of FlickrExport for Aperture. Beta 1 will expire at noon on November 5th, 2006.
Beta software may have any number of bugs, of varying and unknown levels of severity. Please only use these releases if you are comfortable with the risk and keep backups as you use the software.
A serial number for FlickrExport for Aperture 1.0b1 is included in the download.

Congratulations, Fraser – *now* we know why you’re at Photokina. Quite how you’ve found the time to do this and start teaching, I’ve no idea. Respect due!

If this uses the Aperture 1.5 api, do I need to wait for version 1.5 to use it or will it work with 1.1?

Oh, this rocks btw. Sad to say, this was the biggest reason why I wasn’t using Aperture as much because flickrexport for iphoto was so useful.

Deke,
Yes, you do need Aperture 1.5. This plugin will do nothing under Aperture 1.1.2.

cool!!!!!!!
please make a plugin to geotagg raw images from a GPS GPX route file !!!!!!!!
please
there is nothing reliable on osx to do that.
the only reliable tool to tag raw files with gps datas seems to be the exiftool perl library.

Congratulations, can’t wait to start using it!

thanks for all your work
hug April when you get home…..she misses you

Ooh, excellent! I can’t wait for 1.5 to be released to the unwashed masses!

Fantastic. Looking forward to using it. Thanks Fraser.

[...] So the next task today is to play around with it, see what’s new. And to try out FlickrExport for Aperture. I’ve got a pile of photographs from Jon & April’s wedding last week I’ve been saving ’til the update appeared so I’d have a proper project to try it out with. [...]

Stupid question: how do I get flickrexport to use the caption as the description when I upload? I feel like i’m missing something painfully obvious here….
October 2nd, 2006 at 6:34 pm
After having updated to Aperture 1.5 I’m succesfully using FlickrExport for Aperture (beta). Congrats and thanks – it works great so far!
After having read the announcements about the 1.5 feature upgrades, my understanding of the Aperture plugin APIs is that they are providing for image export only. Am I the ONLY one who’d like to see image IMPORT to Aperture from Flickr, et al?
Being able to use Flickr as a transfer site while on the road without my Mac would be a big win for me, but I’m not aware of any mass download features (at least FTP?) that would allow me to get my images back from Flickr into Aperture without painful individual download operations…

I used the plugin over the weekend. I love it because it now allows me to scrap iPhoto for most of my work. I know it’s beta, but it feels very slow to upload compared to the iphoto one. Am I crazy, anyone else feel this? Ill have to do a test between the two to make sure.
Now we just need keyword assistant for Aperture.

Normal export works great for me. THX. But the plugin return always an error if I export an image width geo information tagged by GPSPhotoLinker. Apperture quit after uploading. The pic is at flickr, but without geotags

I second chuq. Why can’t I get the caption to come across as the description? If the description is coming from the caption, what field is it tied to?
Thanks for this; finally, I can stop exporting and then importing into iPhoto just to get my photos uploaded to Flickr. I don’t know who they put in charge of the Aperture team, but it sounds like they are on the right track.
