Clarification about Flickr/Aperture plugins
I just wanted to point out something that maybe is not as crystal clear as it could have been: there are two different Flickr plugins for Aperture.
The first, which we’ll call “the Flickr plug-in for Aperture”, is free from flickr.com/tools/aperture and contains the following features:
- Add title, tags, description, security settings
- Upload to photostream or existing or new sets
Basically, it’s about the same feature set as is available in the standalone Flickr Uploadr application. This plugin is currently at version 1.0.
The second, which is properly known as “FlickrExport for Aperture”, is the shareware product of Connected Flow. This is the plugin which contains all the features of FlickrExport for iPhoto, and more. It has the following additional features to those of the free Flickr plug-in for Aperture:
- Shows a list of your Flickr tags
- Edit geocoding data before upload
- Can add a Flickr keyword to uploaded photos
- Can add Flickr ID and URL to photo metadata
- Can add photo to group pools
- Regex filtering of your flickr tag list
- Set privacy defaults in preferences
This plugin is available in beta form from http://connectedflow.com/flickrexport/aperture/
The free Flickr plug-in for Aperture is, in effect, a “lite” version of FlickrExport for Aperture. If you need the geocoding features, or the extra metadata features, I expect you’ll want to get the full FlickrExport for Aperture. Adding a Flickr keyword to uploaded images is very handy for reminding yourself which pictures are already on Flickr

Why don’t you just name both the same and add “lite” to the name of the free one? The way you have it named now is confusing. I was about to download the free one and install it over the pro version.

Or, as you probably have more control over *your* product, perhaps name it “pro”? The feature set certainly is worthy of the moniker…

are all the versions expired – I dled and tested both plugins – and both shut down aperture and fail to export he photos when i i use the plugin.

I notice that the version on flickr’s website is still 1.0. Does this mean the bug that doesn’t let you upload multiple images and keep the titles/metadata intact is still present? I’d love to be able to upload multiple photos in one export, but the last time I tried, all the titles/captions and tags got mixed up.
Thanks!

I’m with the others on the naming – I was very confused. Having a single base name and then either “pro” or “lite” (or both!) would be much clearer.

One other thing – I want to try the “pro” beta5 out, but am a bit nervious – I already have the lite version 1 installed [the one that messes up titles/tags/captions], and I’m not sure how to uninstall it so i can install the b5 ‘pro’ version.
FWIW, I *will* be purchasing the ‘pro’ version – adding to groups [can you add to multiple groups at the same time?] is a great feature! I would like to try it out though first…should i just install it over the ‘lite’ version?
