FlickrExport for Aperture 1.0b2
Thanks to everyone for their feedback on FlickrExport for Aperture 1.0b1. The response has been fantastic. Here’s the second beta release for testing.
The release notes list all the changes, but I wanted to point out two. Firstly, FlickrExport for Aperture now uses the IPTC fields “Headline” and “Caption” for the Flickr “Title” and “Description” respectively – a stupid omission from the first release.
Secondly, and I just love this, FlickrExport is now connected to Google Earth v4 (v3 will not work). If you don’t routinely geocode your photos, but you quickly want location data for some photos, there’s a new button beside the geodata fields with the Google Earth icon in it. If Google Earth v4 is running, FlickrExport will capture the latitude and longitude of the point that is at the centre of the Google Earth window, and apply that to the selected photos. If you have multiple photos selected, the location will be applied to all of them. It’s not currently possible to put that information back into the Aperture database, so this isn’t a general solution for geocoding photos, but it helps with the quick photo or two that you want geodata for.
Finally, about geodata: there is a bug in Aperture 1.5 which causes the sign to be inverted for longitude when photos with GPS data in their EXIF headers are passed to export plug-ins. Such photos will appear correct in the Aperture metadata panel, but be incorrect when they arrive in an export plugin. This has the effect of reflecting the longitude around the Greenwich meridian. The only work around is to manually change the signs in FlickrExport, and they will be passed correctly to Flickr. I have logged a bug with Apple on this matter.
Full details of changes in this release are in the Release Notes.
